NoDa Real Estate

NoDa Real Estate

With its own unique cuisine, arts, music, theater and shops, NoDa Real Estate is home to the hub, energetic and artsy of greater Charlotte. NoDa is the shortened name for North Davidson Street, the main street to house this eclectic urban neighborhood. The NoDA Real Estate area is home to the Neighborhood Theater, numerous galleries, restaurants, clubs, and concerts. With an area of local events, this area of Charlotte is artsy and contemporary with a blend of heritage and hominess to residents.

NoDa Real Estate History and Heritage

The NoDa Real Estate area flourished from 1903 to 1975 with the North Carolina Textile Industry. It was a self-contained village in the North Charlotte areas being surrounded by farms and fields. Over 200 mill homes were built in this area. It includes a commercial district and even held a pharmacy in 1905. Other early commercial businesses in the village included a barbershop, drug store, doctor’s office, and grocery stores. Later, even a movie theater was built within the village.

With the mill closing, young artists brought in a vision for creating a new art community in Charlotte here in the 1980’s. Paul Sires and Ruth Ava Lyons bought and renovated one of the Mill buildings as well as several other stores and a mill house. The North Davidson Street village area was becoming the NoDa artists’ community. It was a community revitalized and restored. Along with the new community is a sense of culture and nostalgia as the new meets the old every day.

NoDa Real Estate Historic Neighborhood Association

The NoDa Real Estate area has an active neighborhood association called the Historic North Charlotte Neighborhood Association. Their mission is to maintain and develop Historic Charlotte as a dynamic and eclectic urban community. Members of the association live or work in NoDa and volunteer their time on a variety of projects, including preserving and enhancing the arts district. Association members evaluate and approve proposals for new development and work with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning Commission on master planning efforts. They are also known to collaborate with the Charlotte Police department to improve crime rates and enhance communication between neighbors.
