Mount Holly Real Estate can be found in the northeast area of Gaston County and is situated on the bank of the Catawba River. Mount Holly is north of Interstate 85 and has a population of around 10,000. Located just 20 minutes from Charlotte, this quiet town is a delight from the hustle and bustle of city life. Mount Holly has a rich history including a historic architecture.

Mount Holly Real Estate History

The town received the name Mount Holly in 1987 after the Mount Holly Cotton Mill that was also started that year.  It was one of four mills built in Gaston County and still survives today. In 1860 Carolina Central Railway came into Mount Holly and in 1879, the town was incorporated. The Woodlawn Mill was built in 1906 and boasts the honor of being the first mill in the county to have electricity.

Mount Holly Industry and Employment

Currently, nineteen manufacturing firms are located in the Gaston County area and ten are textile related. American & Efird Inc is the world’s second largest thread maker and is still located in Mount Holly today. Freightliner truck Manufacturing is also a significant employer in Mount Holly since 1979.

Mount Holly is supported by industry and from 2006-2008 the town has been implementing strategic planning for growth along with the UNC Charlotte Urban Institute. The downtown is gaining more attention with additional businesses, shops and restaurants. The old train depot is also getting a facelift for retail and office space opportunities. New streetscapes and Citizen’s Center highlight the historical importance of Mount Holly Real Estate and Industry. The city is also implementing green way systems and linking to outdoor recreation around the Catawba River.
